Dr. Lea Brilmayer

Biography

Lea Brilmayer is the Howard M. Holtzmann Professor Emeritus at Yale Law School. Her academic expertise focuses on conflict of laws, federal jurisdiction, and jurisprudence. She has taught at several prestigious institutions, including the University of Texas, University of Chicago, and Columbia Law School, and has led seminars on international jurisprudence at New York University School of Law. Brilmayer has published extensively in the field of conflict of laws, producing significant works such as 'Conflict Laws: Foundation Future Directions' and 'American Hegemony: Political Morality in a Superpower World.' Her writings have garnered attention in legal communities, leading to her testimony before Congressional committees regarding the implications of sex marriage on Full Faith Credit. In recent years, her research interests have evolved towards international law and international relations, which have been reflected in her academic publications discussing nationalism and secessionist movements. In addition to her teaching and research, she has actively participated in interstate international adjudication, including serving as lead counsel in state-to-state arbitrations concerning sovereignty issues and violations of laws of war.
