Biography

Professor Leanna Rubio joined the Department of Periodontics and Dental Hygiene at UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry in 2023. Prior to her appointment, she practiced clinical dental hygiene since 2017 and served as a Clinical Instructor in Dental Hygiene at Lone Star College. Professor Rubio earned multiple degrees including an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, and an Associate of Applied Science in Dental Hygiene from Lone Star College, along with a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene and a Master of Science in Health Studies from Texas Woman’s University. Her commitment to community service is evident through her volunteer work with the San Jose Clinic and various dental events aimed at serving veterans and the underserved community. She believes in providing high-quality dental care that is accessible to everyone. Professor Rubio is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Dental Education Association, American Dental Hygienists’ Association, Dental Hygiene Educators Texas, and Texas Dental Hygienists’ Association. In 2024, she received the Lorna J. Bruning Award for Outstanding Teaching, which recognizes faculty members who demonstrate exceptional knowledge and competence in effective learning. She is dedicated to continued education and making a positive impact on the dental hygiene profession.
