Biography

Dr. Leanne Ward is a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Ottawa, where she holds a Tier 1 Research Chair in Pediatric Bone Disorders. With cross-appointments in the Department of Surgery, she is deeply involved in both clinical and research aspects of pediatric orthopedics. As the Scientific Director of the Ottawa Pediatric Bone Health Research Group and Medical Director of the Pediatric Osteology Clinic at the Children’s Hospital Eastern Ontario (CHEO), Dr. Ward specializes in pediatric endocrinology and osteology. In 2014, she founded the Canadian Consortium for Children’s Bone Health, a national multi-disciplinary network aimed at advancing education and research in childhood-onset bone disorders. Dr. Ward serves on the Steering Committee of the International Society for Children’s Bone Health and as the Founder and Director of the Canadian Alliance for Rare Disorders Skeleton. Her research is primarily focused on the diagnosis and treatment of childhood-onset bone disorders, including skeletal dysplasias and various genetic conditions affecting bone health. The Ward lab emphasizes therapeutic trials, the study of novel drugs, and collaboration with a broad range of specialists. Recognized for her contributions to bone mineral science, Dr. Ward was named a Fellow of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research in 2019, reflecting her significant lifetime achievements.
