Biography

Lee Epstein is a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the USC Gould School of Law and has an extensive academic background that includes previous positions as University Professor of Law and Political Science and Charles L. Ramona Hilliard Distinguished Professor of Law at USC. Her research and teaching concentrate on law and legal institutions, especially the behavior of judges. Epstein has served as the Ethan A.H. Shepley Distinguished University Professor at Washington University in St. Louis and as an Epstein Fellow at the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Additionally, she co-directs the Center for Empirical Research in Law and is the Principal Investigator of the U.S. Supreme Court Database. Epstein's scholarly contributions include over 100 articles, essays, and 18 books, with notable works such as "Behavior of Federal Judges" and "Introduction to Empirical Legal Research." She is currently co-editing the "Oxford Handbook of Judicial Behaviour." Her empirical research is frequently referenced in the New York media. Throughout her career, Epstein has been honored with multiple awards, including the Pritchett Award, the Lasting Contribution Award, and several accolades for teaching excellence. She teaches courses on constitutional law, judicial behavior, and research design methods.
