Lee Fletcher grew up in Perth, receiving undergraduate education at the University of Western Australia in Neuroscience and Pharmacology. He began his research honours program under the supervision of Professors Shaun Collins and Sarah Dunlop, focusing on the diversity and properties of retinal ganglion cells in lampreys. Following this, he moved to the University of Queensland to conduct his PhD research with Professor Stephen Williams, investigating how pyramidal neurons in the primary visual cortex integrate dendritic processes to manage information. After completing his PhD in 2019, he relocated to Cambridge, UK, for post-doctoral research at the London Sainsbury-Wellcome Centre for Neural Circuits and Behaviour at University College London. Due to health issues, he left that position to engage in charity work with the Brilliant Club, teaching science to primary and high school students, and serving as a Trustee for the UK charity Biodiversity Environmental Education Society. He returned to Australia in 2022 as a postdoctoral researcher with Professor Williams at UQ, and has recently secured an NHMRC Emerging Leadership Investigator grant, commencing a new role at Monash University in 2024.
