Lee Goldstein received his bachelor’s degree in humanities and biology from Columbia University and completed his medical doctoral training at Yale University. He undertook an internal medicine internship and residency in psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. Formerly an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard, he directed the Molecular Aging & Development Laboratory at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. In 2007, Goldstein joined the Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine at Boston University, where he is now an Associate Professor of Psychiatry. His research focuses on understanding the role of abnormal protein aggregation in chronic degenerative disorders associated with aging, including Alzheimer's disease. His lab is developing laser-based diagnostic technology to detect Alzheimer's disease years before symptoms emerge. Goldstein's notable contributions include a study published in the journal Brain which provided crucial evidence of early chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) brain pathology occurring from head impacts, even in the absence of concussion symptoms. He has received various honors from prestigious organizations including the National Institute of Mental Health and the Alzheimer’s Association, and serves as a mentor to graduate students within the Boston University Graduate Medical Sciences program.
