Biography

Lee Tiedrich is a widely recognized leader in artificial intelligence, data, and emerging technologies. She currently serves as the Senior AI Advisor at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and is an expert at the Global Partnership on AI (GPAI), where she co-chairs committees focusing on AI environmental impacts and intellectual property issues. In addition, she is the Senior Adviser for the International Scientific Report on Advanced AI Safety, which was led by Yoshua Bengio and commissioned by the UK government. Tiedrich is also a member of the European Union AI Office working group dedicated to developing AI Codes of Practice. With a degree in electrical engineering and 30 years of legal experience, she has had a long career assisting organizations in navigating uncertainty to achieve their objectives. Prior to her tenure at Duke, she was a partner at a global AmLaw 50 law firm where she led a global multi-disciplinary AI initiative and provided counsel on regulatory, corporate, and policy matters. She is also a proud alumna of Duke Engineering School and a parent of a Duke student.
