Leela Gandhi joined the Brown faculty in 2014 as the John Hawkes Professor of Humanities in the English Department and Director of the Gender and Sexuality Studies Program. Her scholarly work investigates the disciplinary intersections and the overlapping legacy of colonial encounters, particularly the transnational traditions of anti-imperial ethics. Her significant publications include "Postcolonial Theory" (1998), "Affective Communities" (2006), and "The Common Cause: Postcolonial Ethics Practice Democracy, 1900-1955" (2014). Currently, she is working on a concept of 'likeness' related to ethical thought.
