Biography

Leeza Meksin is an interdisciplinary artist whose work encompasses painting, installation, textiles, and public art. She has created site-specific installations at various notable institutions including the deCordova Sculpture Park Museum, Brooklyn Academy of Music, and Columbia University's Lenfest Center for the Arts. In 2013, she co-founded Ortega y Gasset Projects, an artist-run gallery and curatorial collective in Brooklyn, where she continues to serve as co-director. Meksin's artistic pursuits have garnered her several accolades, including the NYFA/NYSCA Fellowship for Interdisciplinary Work in 2021, and she was awarded the Rema Hort Mann Foundation Emerging Artist Grant in 2015. Her work has been published in notable platforms such as Bomb, New York, Hyperallergic, and the Chicago Tribune. Before joining Cornell University, Meksin was a faculty member in the visual arts program at Columbia University, where she significantly led the New Genres concentration from 2015 to 2021. She holds degrees in comparative literature and fine arts from the University of Chicago and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, as well as an MFA from Yale University School of Art.
