Biography

Lefkos Middleton is a Professor of Neurology and the Head of the Ageing Epidemiology (AGE) Research Unit at Imperial College London. He has an extensive background in Clinical Neurology and has served as an Honorary Consultant at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust Hospitals. Professor Middleton obtained his Medical Doctorate and completed his Neurology training at Louis Pasteur University Hospital Strasbourg, France. He has had significant leadership roles, including being the Chair of the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics and the Vice President at GlaxoWellcome, where he developed the Imaging Centre at Hammersmith Hospital. His main research focus includes observational and interventional studies for the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease and age-related neurodegenerative disorders. He is known for leading the CHARIOT Register, the world’s largest volunteer register for Alzheimer’s disease prevention, and has been involved in various significant clinical trials and research initiatives related to neurodegenerative diseases. Over the years, he has authored and co-authored 203 peer-reviewed scientific publications and secured over £22 million in research grants from 2012 to 2020, enhancing the understanding of gene-environment interactions and treatment in neurodegenerative conditions.
