Lei Zou's research aims to build sustainable future human communities through spatial thinking, novel data, and intelligent algorithms. Currently, Zou serves as Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator on projects funded by the National Science Foundation and Texas A&M University. These projects cover five research themes: Big Geospatial Data, GeoAI, Disaster Management, Urban Digital Twins, and Coastal Sustainability. Zou leads the Geospatial Exploration and Resolution Research Group at Texas A&M University, supervising Ph.D. and master's students. Factoring into his professional commitments, Zou is the vice chair of the Commission on Geospatial Analysis and Modeling of the International Cartographic Association, and serves as an Academic Councilor for the Geographic Information Sciences & Systems Group of the American Association of Geographers. He is a board member of the Cartography and Geographic Information Society and part of the Research Committee for the University Consortium for Geographic Information Science. Additionally, Zou is an editorial board member for the International Journal of Digital Earth and appointed topic editor for the Big Earth Data journal. His research group is actively recruiting students interested in GIScience, GeoAI, and urban digital twins. With a passion for academia and research, Zou aims to provide students an opportunity to work on a wide range of projects and participate in international conferences.
