Biography

Leigh Ann Newhook is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Memorial University of Newfoundland. She is a pediatrician with clinical practice focusing on general pediatrics and provides care at the Children Youth Alternate Care (CAYAC) Clinic. Dr. Newhook's research interests encompass a wide range of topics including infant feeding nutrition, Type 1 diabetes, pediatric mental health, and the health needs of children and youth in alternate care. Her contributions have significantly advanced healthcare policies and services for children and families in Newfoundland and Labrador. Currently, she serves as the Co-Director of the Janeway Pediatric Research Unit and is a Co-Principal Investigator of the BEACON Study, aimed at enhancing health and social care for children and youth in Newfoundland and Labrador. Dr. Newhook is also a leading member of the Baby-Friendly NL breastfeeding research working group. With over 50 scientific publications to her name, she has mentored numerous research trainees at the undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate levels. Outside of her academic work, Dr. Newhook enjoys gardening, CrossFit, and singing karaoke.
