Biography

Leigh McClarty is an Assistant Professor at the College of Community and Global Health within the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba. Her research focuses on optimizing public health programming related to HIV and sexually transmitted blood-borne infections (STBBI) using a Program Science approach. Dr. McClarty's work spans Manitoba, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Ukraine, focusing on building long-term partnerships with transdisciplinary researchers, stakeholders, community organizations, and funders to improve health service accessibility for criminalized populations. Her doctoral research emphasized characterizing HIV care in Manitoba, with a focus on equity outcomes and service delivery. She has also established a prospective cohort of individuals living with HIV in Manitoba and developed a comprehensive HIV care cascade model. Dr. McClarty's postdoctoral research with the Institute of Global Public Health concentrated on programming for criminalized populations in sub-Saharan Africa facing disproportionate risks of HIV and STBBI acquisition. In addition to her research, she serves as the president of the Board of Directors for the Nine Circles Community Health Centre, which provides culturally safe comprehensive care services in Winnipeg.
