Biography

Leighann Neilson is a Professor Emeritus at the Sprott School of Business at Carleton University, specializing in Marketing. She has a BA in Directed Interdisciplinary Studies and both an MA and PhD in Sociology and Management from Queen's University. Throughout her career, Neilson has received multiple teaching awards, reflecting her commitment to education and her skill in qualitative research methods. She has also explored the intersection of marketing with family history and genealogy, aided by grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). Currently, she is working on a biography of John Murray Gibbon, a publicity agent for Canadian Pacific Railways, who played a key role in brand development. Neilson also teaches courses on consumer culture theory within the Arts Management minor at Sprott.
