Leila Angod is an Assistant Professor in the Childhood Youth Studies Program at the Institute of Interdisciplinary Studies, Carleton University. Her research intersects critical race feminisms, anticolonial theory, and critical youth studies, utilizing ethnographic and participatory approaches to explore how institutional hierarchies shape the lived experiences and feelings of young people in schools. Her work critically examines processes involving archival documents and centers young people's perspectives in worldmaking practices. As the Principal Investigator of a youth participatory action research project funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, she collaborates with an Ontario school board to document and analyze community-making practices among Black students, addressing issues of wellbeing and anti-Black racism. Through her projects, Dr. Angod is also developing a framework that intertwines Black women of color feminist scholarship with research design and facilitation processes for youth empowerment. Additionally, Dr. Angod has written a young adult speculative fiction novel that addresses themes of colonialism and community. She has received several awards for her research, including the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences’ Early Career Research Award and the Racialized Indigenous Faculty Alliance Research Award.
