Dr. Leilei Chen

Biography

Leilei Chen is an Associate Professor in the Department of English and Film Studies at the University of Alberta. She holds a PhD in English and has a rich background in English Studies, with specific research interests in travel writing, women’s literature, and literary cultural translation. Having migrated to Canada from Jinan University in China, Leilei's academic journey began with her English PhD, which she completed in 2004. Over the years, she has written extensively on themes such as cultural conflict, hybrid identity, and the interplay of migration and identity formation. Her work engages deeply with both Canadian literature and the translation of contemporary Chinese literature into English. As a translator, she has translated works by notable authors and has engaged in scholarly discourse about literary translation and pedagogies. In her teaching at the University of Alberta, she focuses on fostering critical thinking and cultural literacy in a globalized context, aiming to cultivate curiosity-driven learning experiences for her students. Leilei's approach emphasizes the importance of dialogue and connection within the learning environment, equipping her students with the professional skills necessary to navigate today’s diverse cultural landscapes.
