Biography

Dr. Leisha Strachan is a first-generation Black Canadian from Winnipeg, dedicated to fostering positive youth development in sports. She started her career as a physical educator after earning a Bachelor of Physical Education and a Bachelor of Education at the University of Manitoba. After teaching at the K-8 level for several years, she pursued graduate studies, earning a Master of Human Kinetics at the University of Windsor, and a PhD in Sport Psychology from Queen's University. Dr. Strachan's research emphasizes positive coaching behaviors and the importance of parental involvement in youth sports. She is involved in initiatives that focus on anti-racism policies in sports and works on various research projects, including Project SCORE, which promotes positive youth sports environments. Her contributions to the academic and coaching community span over 30 years, including leading the ANANSI School of Performing Arts, which celebrates African Caribbean culture.
