Biography

Leith Davis is a Professor in the Department of English at Simon Fraser University and the Director of the Research Centre for Scottish Studies. His academic work includes significant contributions to the understanding of Scotland's negotiation with its British identity, including the book 'Acts of Union: Scotland and the Negotiation of the British Nation' (Stanford 1998) and 'Music, Postcolonialism and Gender: The Construction of Irish Identity, 1724-1874' (Notre Dame 2005). As a co-editor, he has contributed to works like 'Scotland and the Borders of Romanticism' (Cambridge 2004) and 'Robert Burns and Transatlantic Culture' (Ashgate, 2012). His recent publication 'Mediating Cultural Memory in Britain and Ireland: The 1688 Revolution and the 1745 Jacobite Rising' (Cambridge 2022) examines how British national cultural memories are articulated within the context of shifts in media ecology during the eighteenth century. Davis is also the principal investigator for Digital Humanities projects focused on early circus culture and manuscripts. He is integral to the Department of English's MA Specialization in Print Culture and will be teaching a course on Eighteenth-Century Literature in Spring 2026.
