Biography

Leiting Zhang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Uppsala University. He earned his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the Collège de France in 2018. His doctoral dissertation focused on the synthesis and mechanistic understanding of oxyfluorides for high-energy cathodes in lithium and sodium-ion batteries. After graduation, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Paul Scherrer Institute, specializing in operando gas analysis of battery chemistries. In 2021, he joined the Department of Chemistry - Ångström Laboratory at Uppsala University to develop new methodologies for battery testing. Zhang has received a number of prestigious grants for research, including the Swedish Research Council starting grant and the SSF Future Research Leaders grant. He was awarded the Promising Early Career Scientists recognition in Materials Energy and the Rising Star Materials Science award by ACS Materials Au. His teaching includes courses on rechargeable batteries, energy storage, and inorganic chemistry, among others. His current research interests include batteries, energy storage, electrochemistry, gas analysis, robotics, and operando characterizations.
