Biography

Lelia Glass is an Assistant Professor in the Linguistics Program at the School of Modern Languages, Georgia Institute of Technology. She earned her Ph.D. in Linguistics from Stanford University in 2018, where she focused on areas such as lexical semantics (word meaning), compositional semantics (sentence meaning), pragmatics (contextual inferences), and sociolinguistics (language use and social identity). Lelia has received several awards for excellence in teaching, including the Walter J. Gores Award from Stanford University and the Faculty Excellence Research Award from the Ivan Allen College in 2022. Her research employs quantitative and computational tools to analyze how language interacts with social contexts, and she has engaged students in projects to develop their research skills in sociolinguistics and phonetics. Lelia founded and directs the Vertically Integrated Project team 'Language Identity New South,' focusing on the sociolinguistic variation of young adults in Georgia. She aims to create welcoming and intellectually stimulating learning environments for her students, integrating technical tools with rich social contexts in language data.
