Biography

Lena Ambjörn is a Professor Emerita in Arabic Studies at Lund University. Her main field of research focuses on medieval medicine in the Middle East. She has produced text-critical editions of texts attributed to the 9th-century mathematician, astronomer, and physician Qusta Ibn Luqa. Currently, her project concentrates on the neglected Arabic medical encyclopedia, al-Muʿālaǧāt al-Buqrāṭiyya, which is attributed to the clinically active physician Abū l-Ḥasan aṭ-Ṭabarī. In addition to Arabic manuscript materials, Ambjörn has also engaged with Syriac sources. Her research interests include the history of medicine and Arabic medical texts from the 10th century.
