Biography

Lena Andersson is an Associate Professor in Social Work at the University of Gothenburg. She earned her PhD in Social Medicine at the Sahlgrenska Academy of Gothenburg University in 2006. Her dissertation focused on regional differences in disability pensions, sickness absence, and psychiatric diagnoses in Sweden and Norway between 1980 and 2000. Andersson’s research interests are primarily in global health, access to healthcare, migration, and the mental health of undocumented migrants. She is a member of the Centre for Global Migration at the University of Gothenburg and leads projects aimed at strengthening social work education and practice in Rwanda, as well as investigating barriers to healthcare for undocumented migrants in Sweden and South Africa. Throughout her academic career, she has taught at various renowned institutions, including the University at Albany in the USA and Nelson Mandela University in South Africa. Her scholarly work has been published in numerous journals focusing on social work and public health. In addition to her teaching and research roles, Andersson is actively involved in peer review assignments for international journals in her field.
