Biography

Lena Burbulla is an Associate Professor at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in the Department of Metabolic Biochemistry at the Biomedical Center. Her research primarily focuses on the underlying mechanisms of dopaminergic neuron degeneration in Parkinson's disease. She employs a range of techniques including induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) culture, differentiation into disease-relevant cell types such as midbrain dopaminergic neurons, astrocytes, and microglia, and advanced biochemical cellular assays. Her work also integrates multi-omics analyses and high-performance liquid chromatography with electrochemical detection (HPLC-ECD) to understand the complexity of dopamine metabolism and pathology. Burbulla aims to unravel novel targets for therapeutic intervention in neurodegenerative diseases.
