Lena completed her degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Oxford in 2000. She then worked as a research assistant at the NERC Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH) in Oxford, and in 2006, she completed a CASE PhD Studentship hosted at Napier University, Edinburgh, where she investigated bacterial community dynamics in diesel degrading groundwater consortia. In October 2012, Lena took a permanent post at UCL in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering and now leads the Healthy Infrastructure Research Group.
