Biography

Lena completed her degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Oxford in 2000. She then worked as a research assistant at the NERC Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH) in Oxford, and in 2006, she completed a CASE PhD Studentship hosted at Napier University, Edinburgh, where she investigated bacterial community dynamics in diesel degrading groundwater consortia. Lena moved to University College London (UCL) in 2007 to work on EU-funded postdoctoral projects focusing on novel antimicrobials and antimicrobial resistance. In October 2012, Lena took a permanent post at UCL in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering and now leads the Healthy Infrastructure Research Group. Her academic journey has been dedicated to understanding microbial ecosystems and developing sustainable solutions for infrastructure health.
