Dr. Lena Eriksson

Biography

Lena Eriksson is an Associate Professor of Theory Science at the University of Gothenburg with a rich interdisciplinary research profile that spans healthcare, law, and public administration. Her research examines the interplay between knowledge production and institutional settings, particularly in medical assessments and legal decisions. Eriksson completed her doctoral studies at Cardiff University and has held academic positions at the University of York. Her early work focused on scientific controversies and the conditions affecting claims to objectivity and independence. Upon joining the University of Gothenburg, she led and contributed to various research projects funded by the Swedish Research Council and other prestigious organizations, addressing vital issues such as sickness certification, decision-support tools, and medico-legal expertise. Recently, her research has increasingly concentrated on medico-legal decision-making and coercive interventions. She leads a project on forensic psychiatric care in collaboration with the Sahlgrenska University Hospital and is also involved in a reassessment project concerning ADHD and autism diagnoses. Eriksson has extensive experience in academic leadership and teaching, supervising PhD candidates and contributing to interdisciplinary educational programs.
