Biography

Professor Lena Illert is a leading expert in translational personalized oncology. Her core expertise lies in the identification and validation of innovative targets and predictive biomarkers for immune and molecular tumor treatments. The goal of her research is to provide optimal personalized therapy recommendations for oncological patients, which she discusses in an interdisciplinary manner at the translational molecular tumor board at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). Professor Illert studied Medicine in Göttingen and received her doctorate from the Institute of Biochemistry. She became a specialist in Internal Medicine, Hematology/Oncology, and Palliative Medicine at TUM University Hospital Freiburg. Subsequently, she completed her habilitation while working at MSKCC and was appointed Co-Director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center Freiburg and Executive Senior Physician. In 2023, she was appointed to the professorship in Personalized Oncology at TUM and serves as the medical director of the Center for Personalized Medicine (ZPM) at Klinikum Rechts der Isar.
