SNSF Ambizione Fellow in the Department of Social Anthropology since August 2024, Lena Kaufmann leads a research project exploring the challenges and opportunities of digitizing agriculture. Her research focuses on socio-technical and socio-economic transformations in translocal global China, including ethnographic fieldwork on rural-urban migration and agricultural technologies. Kaufmann has been recognized with major grants and awards, including the Mercator Award shortlist in 2019. She authored a book on rural-urban migration and has published extensively in the field of sociocultural anthropology. Additionally, she collaborates with artists and engages in public exhibitions, showcasing her research in wider civil society.
