Lena Kranold joined the School of Engineering at the University of Western Australia as a Lecturer in September 2023. Her research interests are in applied computational electromagnetics with a focus on biomedical applications, particularly in medical device development and magnetic resonance implant safety compatibility. Lena has a B.Eng. degree in Technology Management Marketing from the University of Applied Sciences Kiel in Germany, which she completed in 2013, and a M.Sc. degree in Electrical Information Engineering from Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel in 2015. She earned her PhD in Electrical Engineering from McGill University in Canada in 2020. Her doctoral research involved designing a wearable system for breast health monitoring using RF radar and antenna array design. Prior to her current position, Lena served as a postdoctoral researcher at ETH Zurich IT’IS Foundation, studying the safety of medical implants exposed to electromagnetic fields. She has been involved in various collaborations and is a trainee representative on the Board of the BioEM Society. Lena has received the Arthur Pilla Young Scientist Award for her research at the BioEM 2023 Conference.
