Leo Baskatawang is an Anishinaabe scholar from Lac Des Mille Lacs Nation, located in Treaty #3 territory. Prior to joining the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba, Dr. Baskatawang held an appointment with the Law Society Program at York University, where he taught courses on Indigenous Peoples Law and Social Justice Law. He is also involved in teaching online courses for the Department of Native Studies at the University of Manitoba. His primary research interests center around processes of colonization, reconciliation, decolonization, social justice, and the history of Indigenous peoples, especially the Anishinaabe. He further explores Indigenous law, Canadian policy, treaty interpretation, Indigenous education, resistance activism, and the representation of Indigenous literature and art.
