Biography

Dr. Leo Ferreira is an Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Duke University School of Medicine. His research emphasizes the integration of basic science with clinical translational research, aiming to significantly impact biomedicine and advance human health. Dr. Ferreira has contributed to the development of a graduate program in rehabilitation and musculoskeletal sciences. His clinical experience with patients suffering from muscle weakness has fueled his interest in integrative exercise physiology, skeletal muscle biology, and cardiomyopathy. Dr. Ferreira's research training includes distinctions from the University of California, Los Angeles (Harbor-UCLA), Kansas State University, and the University of Kentucky Medical School. His research portfolio encompasses a range of studies from experiments on individual cells to non-invasive studies in human subjects, supported by funding from the NIH and the American Heart Association.
