Biography

Leon Feinstein is the Director of the Rees Centre at the Department of Education, University of Oxford. He has been actively involved in research focusing on children’s social care since joining Oxford in 2019. Prior to that, he held various significant positions including Director of Evidence at the Children’s Commissioner’s Office and Director of Evidence at the Early Intervention Foundation. His experience also includes serving as Chief Analyst at the Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit in HM Treasury. Leon earned his PhD in Economics from University College London and holds an MSc in Economics and an MA in European Literature. He has over 30 years of experience bridging policy, practice, and research, with a particular emphasis on implementing policies that uphold children’s rights and promote human development. He has authored and edited numerous publications targeting academic audiences as well as policy practitioners. Throughout his career, Leon has led large interdisciplinary research projects aimed at reducing inequality and enhancing the lives and outcomes of children and young people.
