Biography

Leon Hermans works as an associate professor in water environmental policy analysis at TU Delft, Faculty of Technology, Policy Management, and is affiliated with IHE Delft, an academic institute for water education and research under the auspices of UNESCO. His research interests encompass monitoring, evaluation, and learning to support adaptive delta management and water-related transformations towards sustainability. He combines a long-standing interest in the use of actor strategy models for water governance and strategic planning. Leon is (co-)leading several projects related to transformative adaptive planning in the water sector, nature-based solutions, evaluation of water partnerships, and sustainable water allocation rights. He teaches courses on policy analysis of multi-actor systems, actor strategy models, and water policy partnerships. In addition to on-campus courses, he places significant emphasis on online courses as part of his teaching, notably in the jointly offered online programme Water Strategy Planning in collaboration with IHE Delft. Leon obtained his PhD degree in Policy Analysis from TU Delft and has prior experience working for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations before continuing his academic career in Delft.
