Biography

Professor Fleck published over 160 articles and book chapters on a wide range of topics in health care ethics, especially focusing on issues related to health care justice, rationing, and policy. His work has addressed emerging genetic technologies and community dialogue in ethics. Fleck authored a book titled "Caring: Health Care Rationing and Democratic Deliberation" published by Oxford University Press in 2009, and co-edited a volume titled "Fair Resource Allocation and Rationing at the Bedside," published in 2015. He completed a volume titled "Precision Medicine and Distributive Justice: Wicked Problems of Democratic Deliberation" which addresses emerging ethical issues in health care justice and personalized medicine. Fleck has served as the chair of the Philosophy of Medicine Committee of the American Philosophical Association, has been a fellow at the Hastings Center and the Brocher Foundation, and received the University Distinguished Faculty Award in 2003 from Michigan State University.
