Professor Dr. Leonard Ortolano

Biography

Leonard Ortolano is the UPS Foundation Professor of Civil Engineering and Urban Regional Planning, Emeritus at Stanford University. His research focuses on environmental water resources policy planning, emphasizing the implementation of environmental policies in developing countries and the role of non-governmental organizations in environmental management. His recent interests have shifted toward corporate environmental management. Ortolano has held various academic appointments and has been recognized for his teaching excellence, including the Lillian Thomas B. Rhodes Prize for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching in 1996 and the Eugene L. Grant Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2005. He has also received Fulbright-Hays Research Grants for studies in Rome and Paris and has been a visiting professor in several international institutions including Venice, Italy, and Toulouse, France.
