Biography

Leonard Susskind is the Felix Bloch Professor of Theoretical Physics at Stanford University. His research interests encompass string theory, quantum field theory, quantum statistical mechanics, and quantum cosmology. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences USA and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and has served as an associate member of the faculty at Canada's Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics. Susskind is notably recognized as one of the founding figures of string theory, having independently introduced the concept of particles as states of excitation of a relativistic string. In 2003, he introduced the idea of the string theory landscape, which has influenced the field significantly. His position as a professor at Stanford has included roles such as the Director of the Stanford Institute for Theoretical Physics since 2009. He was awarded the J. Sakurai Prize for Theoretical Particle Physics by the American Physical Society in 1998.
