Biography

Leonardo R. Arriola is currently the Dean of Social Sciences, Humanities, and Arts at the University of California, Merced. He is a political scientist who studies the challenges associated with representation and governance in multiethnic societies. His research focuses on inter-ethnic political cooperation, political violence in divided societies, and strategies for human rights advocacy. He is also associated as a senior researcher with the Chr. Michelsen Institute in Norway. Arriola has received several awards for his contributions, including the Carol D. Soc Distinguished Graduate Student Mentoring Award and the 2023 Graduate Student Mentorship Award in Berkeley's Political Science Department.
