Biography

Leonardo Costantini is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Classics & Ancient History at the University of Bristol. He began his classical studies in Liceo Classico – Mazzatinti in Gubbio, his hometown, and went on to earn his BA at the University of Perugia, followed by an MA. He completed his PhD at the University of Leeds, focusing on Apuleius’ Apologia and ancient magic. His postdoctoral research includes a focus on the reception of Apuleius’ Metamorphoses. Since joining the University of Bristol in November 2020, he has been involved in various roles including Humanities Employability Officer and Director of the MA in Medieval Studies. His research interests encompass ancient literature, particularly works by Cicero, Vergil, and Apuleius, as well as themes of Platonism, digital humanities, and ancient magic. Currently, he leads projects such as the Fragmenta Iguvina, which aims to publish unidentified manuscript fragments, and he collaborates on developing a hyper-spectral imaging device for manuscript studies. Costantini has also been actively involved in organizing conferences and workshops, reflecting his commitment to advancing research and education in the field of classics.
