Biography

Leong Chan is an Associate Professor teaching design studies in the Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture at the University of New South Wales. His research focuses on the history of design, particularly the visualization of HIV/AIDS and the visual cultures of East Asia. He has been a chief investigator in significant research projects such as the Australian Socio-Graphic AIDS Project (AGAP) and the Southeast Asian Socio-Graphic AIDS Project (SEAGAP), both of which document public health campaigns and the socio-graphic representations of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Australia and Southeast Asia, including countries like Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. Chan also contributes to the Design Asia Project (DAP), examining cultural history and iconography related to national experiences in East Asia.
