Dr. Leonie Tickle

Biography

Leonie Tickle is a Professor and the Executive Dean of the Macquarie Business School at Macquarie University. She provides strategic operational leadership to the business school, overseeing academic and professional staff while managing research activity outputs and grant income. Leonie's role involves ensuring curriculum integrity, teaching quality, and fostering student experience, alongside engaging with external stakeholders. Recognized internationally in the fields of actuarial science and demographic forecasting, she has published extensively in top-tier journals, including Insurance: Mathematics and Economics and the Scandinavian Actuarial Journal. She co-authored the highest-cited paper in the history of the journal Population Studies and has been awarded national research accolades. As an award-winning educator, she has received several national teaching awards, including four Vice-Chancellor's Teaching Awards, and has represented Australia on the international Actuarial Education Committee. Leonie's academic credentials include a Bachelor of Economics in Actuarial Studies and a Bachelor of Arts from Macquarie University, completing the Fellowship of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia. She has held various leadership positions within the university, including Deputy Dean and Associate Dean, and was appointed Executive Dean in November 2024.
