Biography

Leonie van Bruggen is a board-certified veterinary specialist with a background in small animal veterinary medicine. After her graduation, she worked as a veterinarian in the Netherlands, England, and the USA before returning to Utrecht University to complete her residency in diagnostic imaging. In 2011, she became a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging and currently holds a senior staff position focusing on patient care, teaching, and research at the university. Her research primarily investigates the role of diagnostic imaging within the veterinary forensic field, often collaborating with experts across both veterinary and human domains, both nationally and internationally. She is also a member of the expert panel for the Veterinary Forensic Expert Centre in the Netherlands. As a European Veterinary Specialist recognized by the European Board Veterinary Specialisation, she is responsible for the training, examination, and accreditation of veterinary specialists across Europe. The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Utrecht University employs a variety of EBVS specialists and serves as a recognized training institute for various specializations, contributing to high-quality patient care.
