Biography

Leora R. Cherney, PhD, CCC-SLP, BC-ANCDS, FACRM, is a Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Communication Sciences and Disorders at Northwestern University. With 40 years of clinical research experience, her work focuses on adult neurologic communication disorders. She is the founder and director of SRAlab’s Center for Aphasia Research and Treatment, which provides the Intensive Comprehensive Aphasia Program (ICAP) and weekly community groups. Dr. Cherney's research includes both quantitative and qualitative studies, exploring behavioral, pharmacological, and neuromodulatory interventions to enhance aphasia treatment outcomes. She holds multiple grants from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders and the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research. Additionally, she has authored 100 journal publications and five books, receiving numerous honors including recognition from the Illinois Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the Academy of Neurologic Communication Disorders Sciences. Dr. Cherney is also an active presenter at national and international workshops and conferences.
