Biography

Dr. Leping Li is a Professor in the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary. His research specializes in applied mechanics and biomechanics, focusing particularly on cartilage mechanics, joint mechanics, tissue mechanics, computational mechanics, and constitutive and numerical modeling. Dr. Li has made significant contributions to the field, including the development of a fibril-reinforced theory of articular cartilage, which is widely cited. He has pioneered research in fluid pressure load support within patient-specific knee joint models and has conducted creep measurements on human knees. Additionally, he has recently applied statistical shape modeling in finite element simulations to consider population diversity in knee joint mechanics. Dr. Li's teaching includes courses on Mechanics of Solids and Mechanics of Materials for Energy Engineering, among others. He actively participates in university initiatives such as Engineering Solutions for Health from 2015 to 2021.
