Biography

Les C. Cwynar obtained his BSc, MSc, and PhD from the University of Toronto in 1980. He is the President of the Canadian Quaternary Association and has served on international committees that define and subdivide the Holocene Epoch, which is the current interglacial period. His research employs techniques such as pollen, plant macrofossil, charcoal, chironomid, and moth scale analyses to address questions related to treeline history, Beringian paleoecology, and disturbance ecology, with a particular focus on lateglacial environmental change. Cwynar has also contributed to numerous publications that explore aspects of climate change, ecological response, and paleoecological methodologies. He teaches a variety of courses, including Biological Diversity and Techniques in Paleoecology as part of his academic duties.
