Lesley Dean-Jones, originally from Liverpool, England, received a Bachelor of Arts degree from University College London in 1977 and a Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1987. She began her teaching career at Barnard College, Columbia University, and later joined the faculty at the University of Texas at Austin, where she is a Professor in the Department of Classics. Throughout her career, she has held fellowships from the American Council of Learned Societies and the Humboldt Foundation and has served as the President of the Society for Ancient Medicine from 2000 to 2006. Dean-Jones has authored significant works in Greek literature and women’s studies, including 'Women’s Bodies in Classical Greek Science' published by Oxford University Press. Her research interests focus on early professionalization in Greek medicine and the impact of literacy. She has taught a variety of graduate and undergraduate courses, including Aristotle's Biology and Introduction to Classical Mythology, and has played a pivotal role in organizing the triennial Colloquium Hippocraticum. Currently, she is engaged in a project on the Letters of Plato and continues to contribute to the field through her research and publications.
