Biography

Leslie K. Brown is an independent curator, scholar, and educator specializing in the history of photography as well as modern and contemporary art. With extensive experience, Brown has taught as a faculty member at various institutions including Boston University, Emerson College, Lesley College of Art and Design, Simmons University, Rhode Island School of Design, University of Massachusetts Boston, and Wellesley College. At Boston University, she has taught in the College of Arts and Sciences and the Metropolitan College, focusing on a second-year seminar for eight years. As the Curator of the Photographic Resource Center in Boston, she has curated and overseen over 40 exhibitions. Brown has also worked as a museum educator at the Cheekwood Museum of Art and the Austin Museum of Art. In addition to her teaching role, she continues to work as a freelance arts professional, authoring essays, exhibition catalogs, and artist books. She has guest curated exhibitions for organizations such as the Magenta Foundation and the deCordova Sculpture Park Museum. Brown holds a PhD in History of Art and Architecture from Boston University and a Master's degree in Art History from the University of Texas at Austin.
