Biography

Leslie M. Collins is a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University, where he has played a significant role in advancing research in fields such as physics-based statistical signal processing and auditory prostheses. He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Kentucky and both his Master's and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. His academic career began at Duke in 1995 as an Assistant Professor, where he was promoted to Associate Professor in 2002 and subsequently to Professor in 2007. With a strong emphasis on innovative research, Collins has served as a principal investigator on numerous projects funded by agencies such as the Army Research Office, the National Science Foundation, and the National Institutes of Health. His contributions to technology include developing algorithms and hardware for landmine detection systems and strategies for sensory assistance for the hearing impaired. Collins is also deeply involved in education, having mentored 15 PhD students, and has received several honors throughout his career, including memberships in Tau Beta Pi, Sigma Xi, and Eta Kappa Nu honor societies.
