Dr. Leslie Gold

Biography

Leslie Gold is a Research Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at New York University. Her research focuses on cancer biology, particularly on hormone-regulated cancers. She conducts laboratory studies exploring the loss of growth regulation in cancer, emphasizing alterations in cancer cell regulation of cell cycle proteins, ubiquitin-mediated degradation, and growth factor signaling pathways. Her work involves investigating how TGF-β and hormones such as estrogen and progesterone influence endometrial epithelial cell proliferation through the regulation of protein levels, specifically the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor, p27kip1. Gold's research seeks to identify specific inhibitors of E3 ligase, Skp2, which could potentially prevent p27 degradation and restore growth control in endometrial carcinoma. She utilizes a variety of model systems, including isolated normal and malignant endometrium cells, primary cultures, co-cultures, and 3-dimensional matrices to study the tumor microenvironment and define molecular targets for novel cancer prevention treatments.
