Biography

Leung Tsang is currently the Robert J. Hiller Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He was born in Hong Kong and completed his High School education at Wah Yan College, Kowloon, Hong Kong. He received his SB, SM, EE, and Ph.D. degrees from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Prior to his current position, he served as an Assistant and Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at Texas A&M University from 1980 to 1983, and then as a Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Washington, Seattle, from 1983 to 2014, where he was Department Chair from 2006 to 2011. He also held the position of Professor Chair at the Department of Electronic Engineering at the City University of Hong Kong from 2001 to 2004. Tsang has been actively involved in editorial roles, including Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing from 1996 to 2000, and served as President of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society from 2006 to 2007. He was also President of the Electromagnetics Academy in Cambridge, Massachusetts in April 2008. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and the Optical Society of America, and a member of the National Academy of Engineering.
