Lev studied Physics at Latvian University in Riga, Latvia (formerly USSR) and obtained his PhD in Theoretical Simulation of Radiative Processes in 1975. He worked as a researcher in Riga from 1974 to 1979 before moving to the UK for a postdoctoral position at Keele with Mike Gillan focusing on Ab Initio Modelling of Surfaces. In 1996, he moved to University College London to collaborate with Marshall Stoneham and Alex Shluger on AFM Modelling. From 2000 to 2002, he held a temporary lecturer position at University College London. He became a Lecturer at King’s College London in 2002, progressing to Reader in 2005 and then to Professor in 2009. His research specializes in theoretical simulations using STM and Non-Contact AFM imaging to study crystal surfaces, manipulation of atoms and molecules utilizing STM and AFM, and various other complex materials and processes in condensed matter physics. He actively contributes to cross-disciplinary research in non-equilibrium science.
Requirements are consistent across King's Business School and Social Science & Public Policy departments for standard Master's entries.
