Biography

Lev Menand is an associate professor at Columbia Law School, where he directs Project Public Economic Law. His research and teaching primarily focus on financial institutions, administrative law, networks, platforms, and utilities. Menand has written extensively on these subjects, including his book 'Fed Unbound: Central Banking in a Time of Crisis,' released in 2022. His other notable publication is a new casebook on law concerning networks, platforms, and utilities, reflecting two decades of scholarly work in this field. Before joining the faculty, Menand served as a senior adviser to the deputy secretary of the Treasury and as a senior adviser to the assistant secretary of Financial Institutions. He was also an economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, where he worked on the Governance Culture Reform initiative and the Research Statistics group, developing econometric models for the Federal Reserve System's Comprehensive Capital Assessment Review. Menand gained valuable experience as a clerk for Judge Jed S. Rakoff in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and Chief Judge Robert Katzmann at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit.
